Carry-On Packing Guide (2026)
With the right system, you can pack 7–10 days of travel in a standard 22×14×9 inch carry-on and skip the $30–40 per-leg checked bag fee entirely.

TSA 3-1-1 Liquids Rule
Liquids in containers 3.4 oz (100ml) or less, all in one 1-quart clear plastic bag, one bag per person. Switch to solid toiletries (shampoo bars, toothpaste tablets, solid deodorant) to minimize what goes in the bag. TSA PreCheck holders don't need to remove the bag at screening.
What to Pack
- Clothing: 3–5 days on a 7-day capsule wardrobe (2–3 neutral base colors; every top works with every bottom). Merino wool compresses small and resists odor.
- Electronics: USB-C cable, laptop/tablet, power bank (within airline Wh limits), earbuds with ANC, universal outlet adapter for international travel.
- Toiletries: Travel-size or solid versions; toothbrush, deodorant, sunscreen, prescription meds in original containers.
- Documents: Passport and visa in personal item (not carry-on), offline screenshots of all confirmations, travel insurance details, emergency cash.
- In-flight comfort: Inflatable neck pillow, sleep mask, earplugs, reusable empty water bottle to fill after security.
Common Prohibited Items
- Liquids over 3.4 oz in any container
- Sharp objects (knives, razor blades not in disposable cartridge)
- Lithium batteries over 160Wh (must also be in carry-on, not checked, for 100–160Wh)
- Aerosol deodorants and flammables
