Pro Tips for MIA Travelers

  • MIA's confusing layout means concourse letter ≠ direction — pick up a map at any information desk before departing the check-in area.
  • American's Latin American gates are in Concourse H/J, farthest from Concourse D; allow 20+ minutes to walk between them.
  • The Metrorail + MIA Mover combo is often faster than a rideshare during peak hours (Brickell to MIA in under 25 minutes).
  • MIA is notorious for long security lines in the 5–9 am block — arrive 2.5 hours early for international flights.
  • Duty-free shopping is concentrated in Concourses B and H for international departures; the selection is excellent by US airport standards.
  • Hurricane season (June–November) can cause significant weather delays; always check hurricane track forecasts if traveling in summer/fall.
  • If using Global Entry or Mobile Passport, head directly to the dedicated lanes on arrival — lines for standard immigration can be 60+ minutes.
